Descriptive Writing – The Olympics

4KM and 4KJ have loved learning about the Olympics over the past four weeks.

We have enjoyed reading and researching the Olympic Games but…a picture tells a thousand words!

One of our writing tasks this week involved describing photographs of athletes from the Olympic Games. Using newspaper photos, students had to describe what was happening in the pictures. They had to consider who was in the picture, what they were doing, the background and how the athletes were feeling when the photo was taken.

We hope you enjoy the selection of photographs and our descriptions.

What did you think of our descriptions?

Have you ever taken a really great photo? Can you describe it?

Olympic Comics

This afternoon, 4KM got creative with the website Make Beliefs Comix.

The students made their own comic on the website. The only guidelines were that it had to have something to do with the Olympics.

Make Beliefs Comics allows you to make a comic with two, three or four panels. You can chose from a range of characters, backgrounds, objects, speech bubbles and thought balloons etc. This site is free and doesn’t require you to sign up.

Here are some of the comics that the students produced.

What do you think of the students’ comics?

Have you tried Make Beliefs Comix? How did you find it?

What is your favourite comic book or newspaper comic?

Interviews with Aussie Olympians

Olympic fever has hit in 4KM and 4KJ and we can’t wait for the Games to begin!

This week we researched, scripted and filmed an interview with a famous Australian Olympian from history.

We were inspired by the biography interviews that Mr Avery’s class worked on last year.

The students had one hour to research their Olympian and 40 minutes to create a script and rehearse. The results in such a short amount of time were magnificent!

Check out the videos of our interviews with Olympians.

What did you think of the interviews?

Can you share any facts about an Australian Olympian?

Who is your favourite Olympian?
