Last week our maths topic was time.

Our learning intentions focussed on:

• Identifying times on analogue and digital clocks
• Recognising times that are important to us
• Using 12 hour and 24 hour time
• Calculating elapsed time.

We used this interactive clock to practise telling the time.

Everyone enjoyed matching the digital and analogue times with these Stop the Clock games.

In this game, players need to match the digital clock with the time displayed.

For one task, students viewed the Geelong to Melbourne VLine train timetable on their netbooks. They had to calculate the elapsed time for distances travelled between a variety of train stations.

1. Hi 4KJ and Miss Jordan,

Great blog post!

Lets start off with the questions.
What did you learn about time in class last week? I learnt about elapsed time which was really fun!

Do you have a favourite time of the day or night?
My favourite time of the day would have to be 9:00am or 9 o’clock am because that’s what time i start horse riding. I love horses and ponies so much!

List some โ€œtime wordsโ€ in your comment. Here is some of my time words but I won’t say to much. Clock, digital, time, day, night, minute, second, miller seconds, hours, am and pm.

I really enjoyed elapsed time that we did in class. It was fun when we got to use 24 hour time to!

Giddy up Beau,
Ava

• Hi Ava,

Thank you for being the first person to leave a comment on the blog. I think I learnt the same things you did.

I am going to practice my time at home when I have the spare time. I hope you might as well.

The way you answered your questions was a really great way to do it and I hope I can do it again soon.

Thanks for the comment again and I hope you will leave more comments on these on the blog.

2. Hi 4KJ, (it sounds funny not saying 4KM anymore!)

I loved this post about time.

It was fun learning about time last week, and I especially enjoyed playing Stop The Clock and watching everyone try and beat each others scores.

I learnt what elapsed time meant, and a bit more about identifying analogue times.

My favourite time of the day is on Saturday, from 9am till 4pm, which is when I go horse riding! My favourite time of night is probably at about quarter to nine, when I get to relax in bed with a book.

Here are 4 time words:

. Digital clock
. Analogue clock
. Minute hand
. Hour hand

I know much more, but I’ll leave some for other people! ๐Ÿ˜›

What is your favourite time of the day at school?

Millie ♥

• Hi Millie,

Great comment.

I learnt lots of more about time and time words. My favorite part of the day at school is the end of the day on Fridays,
because I can go home and relax or play sport.

Here are some time words.
second hand
quarter to
quarter past
o’clock
half past.

What is your favorite time am/pm?
My favorite game that we played was stop
the clock as well.

Riley

• @ Riley,

Thanks for replying to me! ๐Ÿ˜›

I like Fridays too, but I have netball training before I go home. I can’t really stay up very late on Fridays becuase I have to get up at 7:00 AM for horse riding (usually 6:00 AM though, because I’m always excited for riding!)

My favourite time of the day is on Saturday, from 9am till 4pm, which is when I go horse riding! I also like after school on Wednesday nights, when I play netball. The times are different every weeks but here are the times we usually play at – 4:00 PM, 4:40 PM and 5:20 PM.

From,
Millie ♥

• @ Millie,

thank you for the reply. On Wednesdays I have football training from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

I don’t get home and relax on Fridays because I play a football match, and some Saturday morrnigs I play game of footy.

On Saturday and Sunday I go hose riding.

• To Riley,

These comments are getting very skinny! ๐Ÿ˜‰

My netball training goes from 3:30 until 4:30, but usually it doesn’s start until 3:40 and end until 4:40.

Where do you do football training?
My netball team (Leopold Lightning) trains in the LINC and sometimes on the basketball court.

From,
Millie ♥

• Dear Millie,
yes these comments are getting very skinny.

I play for leopold green and train at leopold.

3. Hello 4KJ,

I had a go at stop the clock level 2 and 3. My highest on level 2 was 24 seconds and level 3 was 25 seconds.

I enjoyed all the games. I checked quickly to see what train I had to catch if I went by train to the MCG. The reason I did that was because tomorrow I am going to see Melbourne Victory vs Liverpool. Liverpool is from Barclays premier league in England. Melbourne Victory is from Melbourne of course.

From Yunus ๐Ÿ™‚

• Hi Yunus,

I think you would have had lot of fun at the game and I wish I could have gone. My dad would have loved it.

It is good to hear you going onto the Train Website to have a look at the train you had to catch.

It s also good to hear you were on the maths website having a go at some of the levels.

I would have except I was very busy so I might try it tonight and tell you what I get.

4. Hello Miss Jordan,
I love the effort you put into this post. At home I looked at the Vline train timetable and figured out some of the elapsed time. I forgot to write them down though.

In Prep, I remember we did Stop the Clock. I think I have improved on working out 24 hour time, and I would like to get better at calculating elapsed time.

Thank you for teaching me more about time. I am way more confident with time now. I practice times at home by writing the digital time, do the analogue time on a clock I draw and then I write it in 24 hour time.

Some time words are:
antimeridian (abbreviation for AM)
postmeridian (abbreviation for PM)
24 hour time
analogue
digital

I would list lots more but I will let other people do that. Time is very important in the world. It is important to everyone.

My favourite times are:
My birthday
Christmas
9:00 when school starts
3:30 when school ends

Thank you for using your time to write this fantastic post. I appreciate it. Thank you also for all the things you have taught to me about time.

Anneliese

• Hi Anneliese,

What a great comment. I hope you can leave a lot more like that because it is a very good thing to be doing.

I also agree with you: Time is very important to us in the world. I love learning about it.

I know lots of words but I don’t want to say them all because lots of other people have said most of them so if I say them again then there will be none left for all of the other people.

It was very nice of you to say to Miss Jordan thanks for putting the effort into this post and I agree with that because she does take up her spare time to do it for us.

I might go onto 4LB’s blog so I might have to leave now. Thanks for sharing your awesome information.

5. Hi 4KJ,

It’s great to hear you’re learning about time. Being able to tell the time is a very important skill and one you can use all the time.

Speaking of time, I am wondering how many more days I will be waiting before my baby arrives. She is due on Saturday. I am enjoying being at home and getting things ready.

It looks like you’ve had a great start to the term and I am sure everyone is very excited about camp next week!

Keep working hard.

Best wishes,
Mrs Morris

• Hi Mrs Morris,

I didn’t think that your baby was due THIS WEEK.
I bet you are REALLY exited about it.

I have a twenty-four hour clock at home so I think I was pretty good at it at school too.

I am really looking forward to going on camp, I am so exited about the lolly shop as well.

I can’t wait until we all get to see you new baby girl!!

Got 2 Gallop,
Haille

• Hi Haille,

Thanks for writing back to me.

I’m pleased to hear you’re confident with 24 hour time. It can be tricky.

You’re going to love camp and the lolly shop.

I am definitely excited about meeting my baby girl very soon!

6. Hi 4KJ,

I don’t have a favourite time of the day or night. When 4LB was learning about time, we were trying to think up some patterns in a digital time. For example; 12:34. Can anyone find the pattern in that โ“

I used a time word the first paragraph, can anyone find which word it is โ“

Does anyone know some other patterns with digital time โ“

Got 2 Gallop,
Haille

• Hi Haille,

thanks for the comment. i am so sorry but I don’t know any other patterns that you have asked.

I also don’t know what the pattern in 12:34 is I am sorry for that also.
