Geelong Cats Football Clinic

Yesterday, the Grade Four students at Leopold Primary School were treated to a visit from two Geelong Cats football players.

Geelong is a team in the Australian Football League (AFL) and they are very popular in our city. In Australia we use the word “barrack” to say who our favourite sporting teams are. About half of the students in 4KJ barrack for Geelong.

*****

Two Geelong Cats players, Steve Johnson and Josh Walker, ran a footy clinic for all of the Grade Four students. The students enjoyed practising their skills in the following four rotations:

  • Kicking goals from different angles and distances
  • Kicking and marking with a partner
  • Taking dive marks
  • Tackling with a tackle bag

Check out the photos of the 4KJ footy stars!

Thank you to Steve and Josh for visiting us at school!

What skills did you enjoy practising at the footy clinic?

What sports do you play?

  1. Hi Everyone,

Wasn’t this a really great Footy Clinic. It was not like the one I went too at Simonds Stadium. There were over 800 kids there.

I also got to see both of these players and got there signs to. They are so cool and I wish I had one like that.

I hope you guys all shared the fun I had and would like to go and play it again today. Mr Bao is a very lovely teacher.

    ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS:
What skills did you enjoy practising at the footy clinic?
I enjoed kicking the goals without my brother there to annyoy me because when I am at home with him he will make noises every time I go to kick the ball.

    Who do you barrack for?
I go for the Geelong Cats too so it was good to see those two players coming out for me and all of the other Geelong fans.

    What sports do you play?
I play netball and football. My mum also said she might let me start horse riding. (By the way I don’t play footy for a team just in the backyard and out the front.)

I can’t believe Steve Jonhson got sespended again. My mum and dad were teasing me about it last night saying “did you ask him how it happened ❓ ” And as if I was going to do that so I said back to them “In your own dreams ❗ ”

I hope you guys will all have the best Term Three and will enjoy more visiters we get. (If we get more to come.)

    MY QUESTIONS:
What did you enjoy the most yesterday ❓
How do you think you could improve ❓
And what do you think you could improve on ❓

    See you all at school,
    Liv 😆 😉

    • Dear Liv,

      Great comment!

I agree, I think it was a great footy day too.
      It was so much fun.

It sounds like there was a lot of people at the footy clinic you went too. It must have been so busy.
I can’t imagine that many people.

I was so excited when the football players arrived.
I could not wait to do all the activities. When I looked at them they looked so much fun.

My favourite activity would have to be the tackle bag or kicking the goals.

My favourite term is Geelong Cats like you.

      I do calisthenics.
I used to do gymnastics but I don’t do it anymore.

      YOUR QUESTIONS:
      Q. What did you enjoy the most yesterday:?:
A.I enjoyed jumping on the tackle bag and kicking the goals.
      Q. How do you think you could improve:?:
      A. I think I have improve on my kicking. By doing more kicking with the players I think I have improved.
      Q. What do I think I could improve on:?:
      A. I think I could improve my marking.

      Keep up the great blogging.

      • Hi Jess,

Thanks for your really good reply. I think it was very long and nice.

I love the Geelong Cats and it is a bummer they are not on the top of the ladder by them selves.

They do a really good job of playing a game and I like it so all of the fans must as well.

The way you answered my questions was a really great way of doing it and that is the way I do it too.

You have been leaving some really good replies to me and I am not sure about other people but please keep going on with it.

I hope you will enjoy the last day of the first week back at school so see you soon.

        Got 2 Gallop,
        Liv 😆 😉

        • Dear Liv,

          Thanks for the great comment!

I wish the Geelong Cats were a the top of the ladder to.

I think the Geelong Cats play great as a term. They always make the game exciting.
I can’t wait to see there next game!

Thank you for the great comment. It was very nice of you to take the time and to write back to me.
I hope you enjoy your first week of school too.

          Keep up the great blogging.
          From your blogging buddy,

          • Hi Jess,

Something to keep in mind for your next comment is drag it to make it longer other wise there will be no reply button.

Thanks for the comment by the way. I enjoyed reading it.

I should be the one saying thanks for taking the time to write that comment because it takes me no time at all because I am getting faster at typing.

I hope you will enjoy seeing my footy players that come again.

They are on the top of the ladder but they are the same score as Hawthorn.

            Got 2 Gallop,
            Liv 😆 😉

    • Hi Christopher,

Thanks for the comment. I think the Geelong Cats are really good too and I hope they can win again this year.

Meeting famous people is really fun and it would be cool if we could do it like everyday or something.

I have got nearly all of the teams signs. They are all different and that is good because I don’t have to look at the same one all of the time.

      Thanks again for the comment,
      Liv 😆 😉

    • Dear Christopher,

Thank you for the great comment!

I go for the Geelong Cats term. They are my favourite.

It was a lot of fun when the Geelong Cats players were here. All the activities were all very fun too.

We did a lot of different activities with the football players.
The activities were tackle the tackle bag. That was so much fun.
There was also an activities were you kick to another person.
One activities was when you try and kick a goal and the last one was trying to mark the ball as you jump from a trampoline.

      Keep up the good blogging.
      From Jess

    • Hi Jonathan,
I also barrack for Carlton Blues,
      who is your favourite player?
My favourite player is Eddie Betts 😆
      and I don’t play soccer I play Football(AFL).
      😆 From Connor.L 😆

    • Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the comment. My name is, Meg and I am from this class 4KJ.

I don’t barrack for Carlton, I’m a Western Bulldogs fan. They don’t win much games but they’re still great.

I don’t really play a sport but I do help my sister with her netball.

      Thanks for the comment again,
      Meg (4KJ)

    • Hi Jonathan,

I see. The Carlton Blues are a goo team to go for but I go for the Geelong Cats. They are really good at playing football and they get the game moving along quickly.

I think my favorite players would have to be Allen Christensen and Tom Hawkins. They are so good to me so they need to keep up the great work.

I like to watch the games with my family and enjoy saying to them why I think that ball needed to be a free kick and why he should have gotten suspended.

It is lots of fun and I would like to do it every game they have together.

      Got 2 Gallop,
      Liv 😆 😉

      • Dear Liv,

        Great comment!

You are doing very well with your blog comments and when you write blog post’s.
Your comments are always interesting to read and same with you blog post’s.

You are also doing a great job with replying to everyone.
        Great job!

I agree, Carlton Blues are a very good term but I go for Geelong Cats too.
I don’t have a favourite player in the Geelong Cats term.
I think they are all good at playing football.

Good job again with your replying.

        From your blogging buddy,
        Jess

        • Hi Jess,

Thanks for yet another reply. I am so sorry but I am using my other laptop so it doesn’t come up with my avatar.

The Carlton Blues are a team many many people like to barrack for and that is fine.

I think they can also play a game really good but maybe they could win a bit more games to get higher up.

It would be good if they could get higher up but they don’t have too.

And by the way to all of you Carlton fans I am not saying they are a bad team I am just saying maybe they could win more games to get higher up on the ladder.

Thanks again Jess for yet another good reply to me and Johnathon.

          Got Gallop,
          Liv 😆 😉

          • Dear Liv,

Thanks for your great blog comment to me.
            That’s ok about your avatar.

I think that the Carlton blue are a good term to.

Thanks again for another great reply.

            Keep up the great blogging.
            From your blogging buddy,
            Jess

            • Hi Jess,

Maybe we should stop the replies because the box is getting very skinny.

I hope there is a reply button for you to reply to this maybe.

The Carlton Blues like to get on with the game they are playing which is good.

              Got 2 Gallop,
              Liv 😆 😉

    • Dear Joathan,

Thanks for the great comment on our blog.

The term I go for is the Geelong Cats. They are my favourite term.

  2. Hi Bloggers

I really enjoyed the slideshow from you it was amazing.
I barrack for Western Bulldogs but I play Soccer.
How long did you play with the 2 Carlton Fotball Players?

    From Andy at 56steps.global2.vic.edu.au

    • Hi Andy,

Thanks for the great comment! My name is, Meg and I am from 4KJ.

I like the slideshow as well, all of the photos are great I think my class and I had heaps of fun.

I barrack for Western Bulldogs as well, what a coincidence. Even though that they don’t win nearly any games they are still my heroes.

The football players that came were Geelong players and not Carlton doesn’t matter common mistake. The Geelong players stayed for the whole day of school, it was really fun and the tackling activity was my favourite.

      Your blogging buddy,
      Meg (4KJ)

      • Dear Meg,

        Great comment!

It is always fun to leave comments on peoples blogs I think.

I think blogging is so much fun.
It is so much that I think it is my highlight so far.

I enjoyed the footy day. I am sure everyone did.

My favourite activity would have to be tackling the tackle bag or kicking the goals.
I also enjoyed kicking to another person when we were doing the partner activity but I also enjoyed doing the activity were Steve Johnson would throw the ball and you would have to try and mark it after you had jump on the trampoline.

        Keep up the great blogging.
        From your blogging buddy,
        Jess

    • Dear Andy,

  4. Dear 4KJ,
When I was in Prep,4 Collingwood players came to our school (Alan Didak, Heath Shaw, Leon Davis and Dale Thomas). I asked them a question but I forgot what it was. The team I barrack for Richmond and footy is my favourite sport.

I think the Geelong Cats are a great team and I also go for them. They are really good at playing the wet and I hope they can pull off lots more games like that.

It was nice to see you on our blog and I will be sure to have a look at your blog if i have the time too.

  6. Hi 4KJ,

    Great Post 😆

I barrack for Carlton and my favourite is Eddie Betts.
My favourite part about the clinic was diving and catching the football with Steve Johnson it was funny.

    Your Friend,
    Connor

    • Hi Connor,

Yes that was my favorite one too. I think it was also funny because some people couldn’t do it so it was a little bit funny.

It doesn’t matter that those people couldn’t do it as long as they were having fun like me.

I think that it was good footy praise and it would have been a little bit better if we could have done it for a bit longer.

Carlton are a good team to barrack for but I go for the Geelong Cats because I live in Geelong and they are a good side.

Sometimes when I was little I used to trick my dad that I was going to barrack for another team and once he joked to me about I would have to move houses because I didn’t go for them.

And now that was the compliment that scared me so I never said anything like that again.

Thanks for the comment again. Thanks also for being an audience in the middle room while I was practicing for Assembly on Monday.

      Got 2 Gallop,

It is also good to see you on the blog so much because that is normally me.

I hope the other comment didn’t take you to long to read.

          Thanks also for this comment.

I like Carlton too but of course I go for the Geelong Cats.

I have also seen you wear Carlton socks so they are pretty cool.

Why Do you like Carlton ❓
How long have you been going for them ❓

          Got 2 Gallop,

The reason that I go for Carlton is that my whole family goes for Carlton.
Why do you go for Geelong?
I have been going for Carlton since I was born.
How long have you been going for Geelong?
            Your friend Connor:lol:

              Did you enjoy it ❓

I did and I wish it could go on forever.

              Got 2 Gallop,

  7. Dear 4KJ,

    Great post!

I had a great time at the footy day.
    It was so much fun.
I think my favourite activity would have to be kicking goals or tackling the tackle bag.
I also enjoyed doing the activity were you had to jump on the trampoline and then you had to try and mark the ball.

I was so excited when I found out that Josh Walker and Steve Jonhson were going to come and see us. I was even more excited when they got here.

I also all so enjoyed the activity were you kicked the ball to another person and then they kick it back to you.
It was all a lot of fun.

Keep up the great blogging everyone.

    From your blogging buddy,

    • Hi Jess,

Thanks so much for taking the time to write this comment to the class. I think it was a good day to have Josh Walker and Steve Johnson come and visit us.

I hope you had fun just like I did. I learn a couple of skills but not much. It was also good to see everyone having fun.

Seeing players come and teach kids is a great thing to watch and I am so glad got to do two Footy Clinics with those players.

I love football and it is my favorite sport, but I play netball like you would think a girl would.

I also like any type of sports as long as I have friends with me or someone to share a bit of a laugh with then I am fine.

What made you want to follow the footy ❓

    • Hi again Jess,

WOW you are doing a really good job with your commenting this weekend. Am I or not ❓

I think having footy players come was a lot of fun and I can’t wait for more to come if they ever do.

The skills the players taught us were great fun to learn and I wish I could be doing them again and again.

What was your favorite activity ❓

Mine was the one with Steve Johnson.

Thanks for the information, Jess ❗

      Got 2 gallop,
      Liv 😆 😉

  9. Hi 4KJ

WOW the footy clinic photos look great, seems like it was very active and lots of fun. You are very lucky to have the Geelong players come out and spend some time with you.

I’m a Carlton fan, so go Blues.

    From Lara (Paris’s mum)

    • Hi Lara,
      I’m also a blues fan,so go blues.
The footy clinic photos look great my favorite part about the clinic was diving a marking with Steve Johnson and it was great to have Steve Johnson and Josh Walker come to our school.
      From Connor

  10. Hi everyone,

Great post about the footy clinic!
The football team I barrack for is Essedon. My favourite skill in the football clinic was tackling the tack bag.
I don’t play any sports, but I really want to so I might playing a sport very soon.I do calisthenics but I don’t think it is a sport though.
    From your blogging buddy,

    • Hi Eden,

Thanks for the information you shared with us all to read. It sounds like you had a good time then.

I did too and I wish we could do it all over again because then we would enjoy all of the fun all over again, right ❓

      • Hey Liv,

Thank you for replying to my comment.I agree,I definitly wish that we can do the football clinic again.Yes we would definitly enjoy the fun again.

        Bye for now,
        Eden

  11. Hi 4Kj,
First up I have to say not writing 4Km and 4Kj anymore is a big change! But back to the topic great post.

I love the photo’s! Some of the action shots are really funny and cool. On the Rugby League post there were some really good action shots. Well at least I thought so!

I enjoyed doing all of the skills especially the tackling bag and trampoline jump thing.

I barrack for Collingwood which most people reading this comment would say ‘ BOO!’ Or something because they probably Barack for Geelong or a different team.

The sports I play are horse riding and netball. In horse riding I ride a pony called Jester. He is a chestnut which is a brown but can sometimes turn on you! In netball I get put in C which is centre WA which is wing attack and some defence positions= GD GK.

    Keep blogging!

    Got to gallop,
    Paris ♥

    • Hi Paris,

Thanks for the time to write a comment. I think you can go for whatever team you want so don’t worry about other people.

I go for the Geelong Cats so it was good luck for me because the Geelong players came to see us.

I also play netball and as you know might be starting horse riding lessons. I think it will be great fun.

The positions I play are: WA, WD, ♥ GS ♥ and sometimes another one.

I think you would know what all of them are so I don’t need to tell you. I always enjoy the game of netball we play.

Thanks again for the comment and I hope you can leave lots more of the good ones you have.

I hope you had a good weekend and will enjoy being back at school tomorrow. See you then ❗

      Got 2 gallop,
      Liv 😆 😉

      • Hi Olivia,
Tanks for the reply on our wonderful 4KJ blog.

The Geelong Cat players probably came because they live in Geelong! But it is always great to have new players (even though there not Collingwood)come and visit our school.

They seem like very fun positions to play in netball. As you saw in the comment the positions I play are: C, WA and sometimes GK or GD.

        Got to canter,
        Paris & Jester ♥

  12. Hi 4KJ,

Meeting these footy players was a lot of fun. I wish we could do it all of the time until we have met them all. Even the other teams.

I hope you guys all enjoyed them coming to visit us and I hope there will be more to come later on in the year.

My favorite activity was the one with Steve Johnson because I felt like it gave us more exercise and it did.

I also liked it because it was a challenge for us and I love them because they are good to do and then learn.

Being able to meet people like that is amazing for me so I hope it will come around again soon. They are all so nice and they can teach you skills.

I think you guys will all have fun if more players or people like that come and I am sure it will happen.

Thanks for being there to help me learn the skills guys and hey maybe one day you boys or girls might become Footy Players.

I hope you do so I can watch you!

    Got 2 gallop,
    Liv ;lol: 😉 ♥

  13. We have looked at your fantastic Footy clinic and we are a little jealous. This would have been great. We have just started blogging in our classroom and are enjoying looking at what your school is doing. If you would like to have a look at our blog that would be great. http://misskyritsis.global2.vic.edu.au/ Thanks from Miss Kyritsis and class 4EK.

    • Hello Miss Kyritsis and 4EK,
Thanks for commenting on our class blog. The Geelong Cats Football Clinic was lots of fun. I enjoyed meeting Steve Johnson and Josh Walker.

I barrack for Collingwood Magpies. Geelong Cats is a popular AFL team.I would of liked it if some Collingwood players came. It doesn’t matter though.

I looked at your class blog. I see you have started blogging not long ago.

      Thanks,
      Anneliese

  15. Hey Jackson,

I go for Hawks but any way I play football so my favourite sport is football.

If I like it I might start doing under water hockey. Today’s my first try.

    Bye,
    Anthony 😆
