Ice Skating and Etihad Stadium Tour

On Thursday 15th November, 102 Grade Four students boarded two buses with excitement. They were going to Melbourne to ice skate and tour Etihad Stadium.

Our plan was to spend 30 minutes participating in an ice skating lesson, followed by one hour of skating time. Unfortunately there was an accident on the road to Melbourne and we were delayed by almost an hour. We still got to ice skate, just for a shorter amount of time.

The teachers and parents were proud of all the students as everyone had a go at ice skating. It is not as easy as it looks, however, some students were naturals!

Here is a short video demonstrating some of our ice skating skills.

After lunch we walked over to Etihad Stadium which is used for football, soccer, cricket, concerts and a range of other events.

We broke into our four classes and had a behind-the-scenes tour of lots of exciting places including the coaches boxes, media room, television studio, players locker rooms etc.

Here are some reflections 4KM and 4KJ students wrote about the excursion.

Here are some photos from the day (thanks to Janene for some of the photos).

Thank you to our helpers on the day – Mrs Mullen, Janene, Kerryn, Georgia, Jamie, Kerry, Sharon and Leshelle.

What did you think of the excursion?

Have you ever tried ice skating?

Have you ever been to a large stadium?

  1. Hello 4KM and 4KJ,
Wow, what a great post, Mrs Morris.
I like the topic you did this post on also, Mrs Morris.
Thanks for putting Maddy and mines work up.
    Got to go 🙁

    See you later,

    • Dear Libby,

What a great comment from a great blogger.

I agree, this is a fabulous post.I love the 4KM and 4KJ blog, it has so many interesting topics to read and comment about.

I also got my work on the blog. I partnered with Char, unfortunately, Char didn’t get to go ice skating. 🙁

  2. Hi 4KM and 4KJ!

I thought the excursion was fabulous! The ice-skating and the tour of Etihad was superb!

I have tried ice-skating before the excursion and on the day of the excursion. It is hard but a really fun sport!

I have been to a Rod-Laver arena rather than a large stadium.

    From your friend,

    Maha

    • Dear Maha,
It was my first time ice-skating on Thursday but I got it in the last 20-30 minutes.
I don’t know why but I always make something into BMX somehow, but I could do a bunny hop and a 180.

      From your blogging buddy,
      Trav

    • Dear Maha,

I also enjoyed the excursion. I had never been Ice-skating before so it was tricky and the ice was very slippery.
I was a little bit scared that I was going to fall and hurt myself but I didn’t fall (that’s because I was on the ice for about two minutes).

  3. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,

I’ve absent for a long time because my Aunty Shearl passed away, she lives in Canberra so we DROVE up there, things didn’t really go to plan and we ended up staying there for a whole week.

I thought that I’d be back in time for the excurstion, and I was disapointed that I didn’t get here in time, but I would have chosen to go to the funeral than ice skating and the tour because I was very close to Aunty Shearl, and I was so sad.

No, I’ve never tried ice skating because I’ve never had the chance! 🙂
But when I lived in Melbourne, we went roller blading every Saturday with friends.

Even if I was there, I don’t think that I could’ve done many things because of my back.

  4. Hi 4KM and 4KJ,

I am from Mrs.Donofrio’s blog and my name is Alexandra. I enjoyed reading your blog and you are one of my favorite blogging buddies. It seems from what I read that your fourth grade class had a lot of fun ice skating! Even though, your trip was delayed by a car accident. At my school our Oddesey Academy goes on a field trip to go ice skating and it is always tons of fun. I am happy your class had a fun day!

    • Dear Alexandra,

Thank you for the comment the you posted on our blog!

We had a lot of fun ice-skating! But it wasn’t fun when we fell over and had to leave. 🙁

  5. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,

It has been a very long time since I tried ice skating. From the photos and videos, I can see some of you have most likely tried ice skating previously. In my case, I think I would be about as graceful as a giraffe on roller skates. 🙂

    • Dear Ross Mannell,

Thank you for leaving a comment on the blog.

At the ice skating rink, I fell down heaps of times!

      Georgia 😆 👿

      • Hello Georgia,

Sorry I have taken a week to answer your reply. I ran into a busy tie with some DVDs and CDs I was working on.

I know when I tried ice skating, I also fell a number of times whenever I moved away from the wall. With my height, it’s a bit further to fall but I see you were all wearing helmets. 🙂

    • Dear Ross Mannell,

Thanks for commenting on the class blog.

I was like a giraffe on roller skates, except I held on the railings. My legs crossed over each other. The ice skates were really tight and hurt, a lot!

I had not been ice skating before and it was extremely hard!!! I couldn’t let go, except for when I had to get around people.

Etihad Stadium was the best part I think and that is because we could go on the footy ground, coach boxes, lockers player rooms and lots more.

      Ok, Bye for now
      Chloe

      • Hello Chloe,

As I explained to Georgia. I had a busy time last week and so I took longer than expected to answer your reply. 🙂

It seems to me we are from the same school of skating. I had the same problems as you when I tried. The wall was a much safer place to be. 🙂

  6. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,
I loved the post that Mrs Morris did. My favourite thing that I Brodey and I did was go as fast as we can then jump on our butts and slide as long as we can and the one that goes the longest wins $10.

    From your friend Lachstar LOL.

    from Tyler 🙂 😀

  9. Dear 4Km and 4KJ,
I loved the excursion especially Etihad, it was so cool when we got to see where the coaches sit. The coaches are lucky because they get a nice view of the game, I also enjoyed ice skating it so fun that I just wanted to do it over and over again.

It was kind of hard to do ice skating because many people haven’t tried ice skating before like me, it was kind of hard for me because the ice was slippery.

  10. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,

    What a great post!
Ice skating and going to the Etihad Stadium was one of the best excursions I have ever been on! Thanks Miss Jordan and Mrs Morris! 🙂

Unfortunately, I couldn’t go Ice skating because I split my leg open and I had to get 10 stiches. I still went to cheer them on.

After that we walked to the Etihad Stadium. That was fun too. All the Grade Fours split up into teams and went off. We went into some of the rooms that very few people can go!

Unfortunately, we had to leave! 🙁
    It was an amazing trip.

    Sincerely,
    Charlotte
