Swap It, Don’t Stop It!

4KM and 4KJ are enjoying our new term topic, Healthy Choices.

Last week we learnt about an Australian government initiative called the Dietary Guidelines for Children and Adolescents in Australia. We know it is important to eat a balanced diet with foods from all of the different food groups.

Yesterday we learnt about another campaign the Australian government is running. Swap It, Don’t Stop It is a national program aimed to help Australians make healthy food and exercise swaps.

It’s all about swapping some of the things you do now with healthier choices.

The Swap It, Don’t Stop It website has a lot of excellent advice about making healthy choices.

  1. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,

    my ‘Swap it, don’t stop it’ idea is sway a bowl of custard for a bowl of mashed frozen berries. Or swap three pancakes with syrip for one or two pancakes with fruit.

    I do horse riding to stay fit. Especially cross-country (jumping ranom things and logs).

      It would be hard to swap castard because it is so good.
      Pancakes are good to swap. They are also very tasty but swapping it would help you get heathy.

      I also do horse riding.I’m not sure if it is to stay fit or because I just love doing it. I also love having fun jumping and crossing country. My teacher is also very nice so that makes it better.

      My “Swap it don’t stop it” is
      swap your parents driving you to school to ride or walk to school.

      Who is merry legs?
      Do you know any other “Swap it dont stop it’s”.

        yes, I do know you do horse riding. You go to the stables behind Koombalah Park, right?
        I go to Wallington Park.

        Merry-legs is my pony, it’s a silly name, my mum got it from Black Beauty, the little white pony.

        Another ‘Swap it Don’t Stop it’ idea is swap playing video games for playing something outside.

      This post does look amazing.Miss Jordan did an excerlent job on this post. But that wouldn’t suprise me because all the posts on this blog are fantastic.

      Swap it don’t stop it is a great idea to stay healthy. And a great topic for healthy choices. Some people need to start working on loesing weight. 😯

    I think it’s great that Miss. Jordan did this post because it’s great to get people to swap it don’t stop it.

    An exsample would be if I had a giant bowl of lollys than i would swap that for 3 or 4 lollys or if i had 12 scoops of ice cream than i would swap that for 1 scoops of ice cream.

      I agree, the Swap It Don’t Stop It campaign is a great idea.
      Make sure that next time when you do something that is only 1 you don’t have to put an “s” on the end.

  4. Hello 4KM and 4KJ,
    Well done on the post, Miss Jordan.
    A couple of my swaps would be:

    ♥ Swapping a mound of ice-cream with Milo – Having one scoop of ice-cream with fruit.

    ♥ Having a sleep-in – Having an early bike ride then when you get home have a nap for like an hour instead.

    ♥ Sitting on the couch and playing your iPod for like an hour or 2 – Going for a walk with your family, then you can play your iPod for about half an hour.

    ♥ Laying on your bed and watching a movie, eating chocolate – Playing a sport outside then watch a movie and eating like 2 or 3 pieces of chocolate instead of having like a quarter of a block of chocolate.

    I love the post, Miss Jordan! This might be silly of me saying this but, I like how you put the links on the blog! Here are my swaps:

    1. Swap a small packet of chips for some stramberry’s.

    2. Swap high fat ice~cream for low fat ice~cream.

    3. Swap chocolate for some fresh fruit and yought.

    Well I horse ride to keep fit. I also run to keep fit because I only have horse riding once a week.
    I really woulden’t call my self fit, because don’t exersize much but I do. (If you know what I mean.)

    What a great campaign! It doesn’t take too much of a change to live a healthier life. I know that came for me when I took up walking as a hobby. I was able to swap some time in front of the computer for walking and hiking out in the open. My real bonus came in the way walking can help me think and gives me the chance to take some great photos.

    Walking can be as little as swapping the car for your legs if you go to school or the shops. It can be a whole family activity on weekends when we go for a walk in a national park.

    I’m lucky in my town. Surrounding it are Bournda National Park, Bournda Nature Reserve, South-East Forests National Park and Ben Boyd National Park as well as beaches to explore. I know many trails and some places without trails.

    What an awesome post! We loved your Voicethread and are going to try and see if we can make one soon. All of us in Year 2 had a think about keeping healthy and here are some of our ideas:

    Girija thinks kids and parents should walk 1 hour every day.
    Addie says ‘An apple a day, keeps the doctor away!’
    Badr thinks to keep fit and healthy, you need to eat dairy products.
    To keep healthy, swap a plate of jelly for a bowl of watermelon. – Eli
    Georgia thinks if you have a bike, you couldride it after school.
    If you have a big backyard, then you can play lots of soccer and cricket. – Declan
    Cooper thinks to keep healthy you need to sprint, run and jog.
    ‘Stop sitting on the couch and run!’ – Jag
    Zoe thinks that kids should drink 1 litre of water each day and adults should should 2 litres of water to keep healthy.
    Luke thinks that when you have a bug in your tummy, it is not a good idea to eat dairy.
