“You Can Do It” Comics

This week 4KJ enjoyed creating comics using Make Beliefs Comix. Last week 4KM shared their Olympic comics using the same website.

The theme for 4KJ’s comics was based around the You Can Do It program. At Leopold Primary School, all classes use the You Can Do It (YCDI) foundations to promote and encourage student achievement and wellbeing.

The YCDI foundations are Getting Along, Organisation, Confidence, Persistence and Resilience. We focus on a different foundation each term and all students are encouraged to adopt the YCDI habits of the mind at school and at home. You can read more about the YCDI program here.

The students in 4KJ created the comics below using the YCDI foundations for inspiration.

See if you can guess if each comic is focussing on getting along, organisation, confidence, persistence or resilience!

(Tip: click on the full screen button to view the comics).

What did you think of our comics?

When have you demonstrated one of the You Can Do It foundations at school or at home?

Why are getting along, organisation, confidence, persistence and resilience important in life?

  1. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,

    What a marvellous blog post!

I thought the comics were wonderful. I could only read a couple though because the writing was small.

I did my comic about Getting Along. A girl had lost her friends and then she went to ask another girl if she could play. She said yes. The girl who had lost her friends thought to herself ‘This is fun! I should do this more often.’

I have showed organisation at home by looking through my draws in my desk to find anything I didn’t need. I threw heaps of things out.

    • Dear Skye,

I also think this is a marvellous post!

I thought the comics were fantastic. I full screened and luckily it worked!

I thought everyone did a great job and I think all of them are spectacular!

At home I got along with my brother so that we could help mum.

I think Getting Along, Organisation, Resilience, Confidence and Persistence are important because they help you in many different ways. For example, organisation helps you get ready for a lesson quicker and simpler.

      From your friend,

      Maha

      • Dear Maha,

Thanks for replying to me! I appreciate it! 🙂

I looked at all of the comics this morning at school and they look pretty good.

That’s good that you got along with your brother to help your mum. Good teamwork!

I agree that Getting Along, Organisation, Resilience, Confidence and Persistence helps you a lot.

  2. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,

What fantastic comix about You Can Do It!

I like Indiana’s comix. It is very creative and I like how there is a mean girl that apologizes.

    Got to go,

    😀 😳

    • @ Georgia,

What a great comment! You are a fabulous blogger. I agree, this You Can Do It post has had a lot of effort put in to it.

I really loved Indi’s comix too! It is very creative and is very entertaining.

Where would we be with the You Can Do It foundations? This world would be a mess without the You Can Do It foundations. Everyone would be mean, not organised, never being confident, and never being persistent. I’m glad we have the you can do it foundations.

      Liv 😉

  3. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,
I loved all the comics! 🙂 But my favourite one would have to be Liv S’.
I’ve showed confidence when I started horse riding. I had to jump a 70cm log. The first time was a rufusal and I almost fell off, then I tried the second time and he jumped it!
Well it was sort of cross between confidence and persistence.

The You Can Do It foundations are very important in life.
Getting along- If you get along with people you’ll have more friends, if you don’t get along people won’t want to be your friends.
Organisation- If you’re organised it’s easier to find your things so your not late for something.
Confidence- confidence is very important, if you didn’t have confidence you woud’nt be able to acomplish anything.
Persistence- When something knocks you down you right back up, if you give up and you stay on the ground you can’t complete what you tried the first time.

  4. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,

What an awesome post! All the Comix were outstanding and I enjoyed looking at them.

As I said, all the Comix were outstanding. I really liked them. Unfortunately I couldn’t view all of them because our Internet was playing up. I think that Indi’s was pretty good. All of her pieces fitted perfectly in the slides.

I have demonstrated Getting Along quite a few times. Let me tell you
I have shared my toys with my brother at home.
I have introduced myself to new people at school.

I have also been awarded a few Getting Along certificates at school numerous years in the past.

I have demonstrated Organisation a few times.

I have cleaned my room in a very organised form.
In school at the moment I am organising a maths day with some other kids.

I have a couple of Oranisation certificates from school too.

I don’t think I will go on with any others but I have definitely demonstrated all of the You Can Do It keys.

I think Getting Along, Organisation, Confidence, Persistence and Resilience are important in life because if you didn’t t perform them, you wouldn’t have any friends and everyone would be shy and messy. I can’t imagine life without those five important keys.

    Have a great weekend,
    Millie 🙂

  5. Dear Miss Jordan

Wow what a great post about our comics, I really enjoyed making them. If we didn’t have those keys for example getting along everyone would go all mad and won’t let anyone play.

  6. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,

What a wonderful post! I really liked all of the comics! I really loved Sophies because the girl turned out really organised.(I just love being organised.)

I showed confidence when I canted over a jump for the first time. It was really scarey when the teacher said “Now do the same jump in canter!”
I pulled the horse to a sceching halt and yelled out “what!”

I think all of the YCDI words are very important in life because if we didn’t have organisation everything in life would be pear shaped!

    Well I must go!

    From your blogging buddy,
    Iesha 😉

We are starting our own blog in the next couple of weeks, maybe you could give some ideas and advice about how to create a successful blog like yours. You might even be able to look at our blog and give us some ideas to help us…

    • Dear Holy Eucharist P.S,
thank you for leaving a comment on our blog! Here’s a tip for your blog, using pictures in a post, don’t use ones on google. Don’t have to many or very big ones. Maybe you could leave a comment on my blog here .

  8. Hello everyone in 4KM and 4KJ at Leopold Primary School.

We are in the Red Group at Holy Eucharist Primary School. We think your comics and your blog is great. We think the idea of using comics to show the YCDI foundations is fantastic! We’ve been making comics too. We made comics about the Olympic Games. How did you create your comics and where did you get the idea? We’ve been using iPads to make our comics. We try to show the YCDI foundations everyday.

    Hope you like our post.
    Stay in contact!
