Three Cheers for Mrs Morris!

Last night was the annual Victorian Education Excellence Awards held at Crown, in Melbourne, Victoria.

The VEEA showcases a variety of outstanding achievements by teachers, leaders and education support officers in Victorian Government schools. It is a very prestigous event and even being nominated is a special achievement.

for winning the Outstanding Primary Teacher of the Year!
What an amazing achievement!

 Here’s how the night unfolded…

Excitement was high as Mrs Morris, her husband, Nate, sister, Jo, mum, Ann and Miss Jordan travelled to Melbourne to attend the awards. The Palladium room at Crown is a very special venue and there were over 700 people at the event.

It was terrific that our principal, Ms Rollinson, was invited to the awards and she was sitting at our table with some other Geelong nominees.

Throughout the evening, the Minister for Education presented different awards. You can see the categories for the awards here. After our entree and main course, the moment we had been waiting for finally arrived. The nominees for the Outstanding Primary Teacher of the Year award were named and Mrs Morris was announced the winner!

Mrs Morris made her way to the stage to answer some questions and receive her framed certificate. Later on she was photographed with the other award winners.

Mrs Morris is using her $10,000 prize to present at the ISTE conference in San Diego, USA. She will present with our blogging buddy, Mrs Yollis! Mrs Morris and her husband, Nate, will learn so much at this big conference and Mrs Morris can’t wait to meet many other blogging buddies around the USA. She also plans to use her prize money to help other schools get involved in blogging and global collaboration.

Here are some photos of the night.

What a fantastic achievement for Mrs Morris! We are so proud of you!

Check out the thoughtful posts by former students BB, Rhiannon and Jarrod.

  1. Dear Mrs Morris,

Well done on getting the award for best primary school teacher of the year! It is a great thing to be put up for something like that good job Mrs Morris.

I think it is a fantastic achievement for Mrs Morris to get that award. It is also very nice that you bought your family to the VEEA award.

I have won a netball certificate once but that is proberly it. I also have one some competions through the news paper but thats all.

    Well great job Mrs Morris!

    See you soon,
    Jess 😉

    • Dear Jess,

Thank you for being the first student to comment on this post.

You have done well to win a few things yourself.

It is great to win but Miss Jordan deserves to win too, don’t you think?

      Best wishes,
      Mrs M☀rris

  2. Dear Mrs Morris,

Such a well deserving win presented to you.
I was so over the moon when I read on BB’s blog and now your blog that you had won.

So congratulations and may this be the beginning of many more awards to come your way.

You inspire others that anything is possible. You make blogging along with your other blogging pals that we can all learn despite where you may live in the world as well as lasting friendships.

Three cheers to you Mrs Morris.
How, wonderful that you had such a wonderful team there supporting you on your night of night. 🙂

    • Dear AA,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! You are a parent and a blogger I will always remember.

It was great to have a wonderful team supporting me on the night.

      Enjoy your weekend,

      Mrs M☀rris

  3. Dear Mrs Morris,

HIP HIP HOORAY! Well done Mrs Morris, I am so overjoyed for you. You really deserve this award.

The work that you do with your students is so outstanding and I really appreciate you and Miss Jordan immensely.

The photos of you all on the night made me feel like I was there. I especially love the photo of yourself and Miss Jordan. Your dresses were beautiful, but how do you walk around in those heels?

Good bye for now, Primary School Teacher of the Year,
    Liv S 🙂

    • Dear Liv,

You are such a kind and thoughtful student. Miss Jordan and I enjoy teaching you immensely!

I’m glad you liked the photos. Miss Jordan and I forgot to take a real camera so we took most of the photos on our phones. I did get some professional photos taken so hopefully they turn out well.

You are very observant to notice my big heels! Aren’t they nice? The key to walking in heels like that is to walk slowly! I had to walk up some steep stairs to get to the stage. On the way down it was quite difficult, there was no handrail so I had to walk very carefully!

it was fun buying a new outfit for the night. Do you have a special outfit you like to wear to parties and special occasions, Liv?

      Bye for now,
Primary School Teacher of the Year

      • Dear Mrs Morris,

Thanks for such a kind reply. I just love being in yours and Miss Jordan’s class. You make learning so much fun and teach lots of great things.

I hope you get some great photos for you to remember such a wonderful evening. Nate and the rest of your family must be very, very proud.

The heels you have are very nice. You would have to walk very slowly to get good balance.

I have a very special outfit I like to wear to party’s and special ocassions. It is a black and white dress with little straps and lace around the bottom. The shoes that go with it are black flat ones, not like your great big heels! Maybe when I’m older. I got it when I went to see Andre Rieu in Melbourne with my family. Whenever I wear it, it reminds me of the concert.

        Liv 🙂

        • Dear Liv,

Nate and my family sure are proud. My mum bought me some flowers today!

Your dress sounds lovely! How nice to have a special outfit that reminds you of special events. I know what I’ll think of when I wear my black lace dress again!

I think flat shoes are very sensible. I rarely wear heels actually; they hurt my feet!

It’s always great to hear from you, Liv.

          Mrs Morris

          • Dear Mrs Morris,

Thanks for such your kind words. We are having a great conversation, aren’t we?

I’m sure Nate and your family are exceptionally proud of you. I know I am!

I think yourself and Miss Jordan are wonderful teachers. I think Miss Jordan too, deserves an award, don’t you think?

            Liv 🙂

            • Dear Liv,

It’s fun to have conversations. Yes, I agree Miss Jordan deserves an award. In fact, I think she might win next year!

What are you looking forward to this week?

              Best wishes,
              Mrs Morris

  5. Congrats Mrs Morris!

What fantastic news. I am delighted for you. It is so well deserved! You inspire not only your students, but the teachers that are lucky enough to work with you and collaborate with you online and in person.

I think it is fantastic that the Victorian Education Award recognised the excellence in technology and the need for this to be further enhanced in our classrooms and schools.

Now you better go off to San Diego and come back and teach all of us all the exciting things that come out of there. I expect live twitter feeds:)

    Well done
    Mrs Murphy

    • Dear Mrs Murphy,

      Thank you for the congratulations.

It is always wonderful to work with teachers such as yourself who have such a passion for teaching and innovating.

News of your win is wonderful. There is nothing more pleasing than to see someone receive recognition for their efforts to enrich the lives of their students and other staff. What a wonderful opportunity to be able to use the prize to share with others, particularly as this means you can present with Mrs. Yollis. This will be an impressive team for the ISTE Conference.

    Teacher, NSW, Australia

    • Dear Ross,

        Great Job

I would love to win some fun runs when I am older
What is favourite fun run to do?

        From your student
        Clancy 😉 🙂

        • Dear Clancy,

You are a great distance runner. You could even be a marathon runner when you’re older. Do you know how far a marathon is?

I have done many fun runs. The most exciting one I did was the City 2 Surf in Sydney. It is 14km on a beautiful (but steep) course from the city to Bondi Beach.

There have been many other memorable runs like the very first Run Geelong a couple of years ago. It was absolutely pouring. I got so soaked in the 12km run!

          Best wishes,
          Mrs Morris

  9. Dear Mrs Morris

    from your proud blogging pals

I’m sure we’ll have lots of fun working together in the future.

      Your pal,
      Mrs M☀rris

  10. Dear Mrs Morris,

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS for winning the award. You really do deserve it because you are such a great teacher! You and Miss Jordan looked very, very pretty in the photos. You get dressed up for things like this! 😀 🙂

I emailed Miss Jordan wondering if you won and I was so excited that you won. I told my dad straight away. My mum was at work.

It was wonderful that your family came to support you. I bet they were excited when you won the award!

I have won an award once. Actually, it was a netball trophy for my team’s netball achievements. We got into the grand final. I have also got an award for basketball and netball. It was a great feeling to go up and collect the trophy for netball. Was it a great felling for you to go up and collect the award Mrs Morris?

I think you won because of your students and there answers I bet they were all wonderful replys and I think the guy enjoyed himself when listening to the answers the children were giving him. But another reason is because you an awsome teacher and every student in this school would love you to be there teacher.

Thank you for sharing your cake with the class yesterday, it was delicious!

  24. Dear Mrs Morris,

WOW! Great job on your fantastic achievment! You deserved that award because you are a fantastic teacher!

What did it feel like going up onto the stage to collect your award?

I thought that you and Miss Jordan looked very pretty in your dresses!

What did you have for the entree and main course?

    • Dear Sophie,

Thank you so much for your lovely comment and your compliment about our dresses. Luckily my sister is a hairdresser and makeup artist – very handy!

When I had to go on the stage I felt really shocked and happy. I couldn’t stop smiling!

The entree was a cold beef dish with a mushroom salad. The main was a chicken breast with pea tortellini (pasta), peas and asparagus. The other main was lamb with a potato bake and beans. It was an alternate drop which means every second person gets the lamb and the other person gets the chicken. I had the chicken but I think the lamb was the winner! There was no real dessert, just chocolates and coffee.

What is your favourite thing to have when you go out for dinner?

      Best wishes,
      Mrs M☀rris

      • Dear Mrs Morris,

Thank you for replying to my comment! Your sister being a hairdresser and makeup artist would come in very handy.

If I was a teacher and I won that award I wouldn’t be able to stop smiling either!

The food sounds very delicouse! My favourite thing to eat when I go out is nachos, but my Mum and Dad think it is very unhealthy so they don’t let me have it often.

        • Dear Sophie,

I like nachos too! It’s a shame so many yummy foods aren’t good for you but it’s fun to save them for special treats.

Would you like to be a teacher someday? Or do you have other ideas?

          Best wishes,
          Mrs M☀rris

    • Hi Kerrie,

Thank you for the lovely comment!

I was actually wondering how many nominees there were. Apparently there were a lot! Three finalists were chosen
      after the interviews.

I’m so honoured to be the winner though Leopold is lucky to have a number of great teachers, including Miss Jordan of course!

      Best wishes,
      Mrs Morris

    • Dear Matt,

Thanks for the wonderful comment! We love parents leaving comments on our blog. You are really getting into blogging. 🙂

Yes, the sun is good to have around in this awful weather. I don’t think it is going to stay though because winter is coming.

    • Dear Matt,

Thankyou for leaving a comment on the blog.

I also think the wether has been good the past few days. Hope the wether stays good in winter. I think it is good to go out into the sunshine too.

      Bye for now,
      Jess [4KJ] 😀

    • Dear Matt

Thanks for leaving a comment on our blog once again, since it is Family Blogging Month.

Hannah & Becky have been going well in the challenge.

      From Elijah 4KM

  30. Dear Mrs Morris

Well done on receiving your ‘teacher of the year’ award. You have worked so hard over the years to share your knowledge with students and parents and deserve such a prestigious award.

Both you and Miss Jordan encourage, support and enhance the learning of not only your own students but that of other bloggers too and should both be congratulated on outstanding teaching.

I also agree with a lot of the other comments, that your dresses looked amazing!

    Kind Regards,
    Carole (Jess’ mum)

    • Dear Carole,

Thanks for your lovely comment! Miss Jordan and I did have fun getting dressed up.

The card Jess gave me this morning was so thoughtful, what a great daughter you have!

      Best wishes,
      Mrs M☀rris

  31. Dear Mrs Morris,

I agree, it’s really fun to have conversations.

I wish there could be two winners next year, Miss Jordan and you! You are such kind and thoughtful teachers.

This week I am looking forward to setting up my blog. I decided I’d change it from ‘Liv’s Live Blog,’ to ‘Liv’s Legendary Blog.’

    Happy Blogging,
    Liv 🙂

    • Dear Liv,

Thanks for your new comment. Our old thread was getting a bit skinny.

I like your new idea for the blog title. If you would like to think of other ideas, you should check out the title’s of Mr Avery’s student blog. They have names like Speaking of Taite and Kidding with Kirstyn. They are great sort of titles!

It will be fun to work with you on your new blog.

      Best wishes,
      Mrs M☀rris

      • Dear Mrs Morris,

Thanks for a fantastic reply. Our conversation is going great!

I just published my first post! I was so excited to publish a post again, I missed blogging last year.

I think I might change my blog name actually. I was thinking ‘Living with Liv’. What do you think of it?

Mr Avery’s students have absolute fabulous names for their blogs. I particually like ‘No problEMMA’.

        Liv 🙂

        • Dear Liv,

I’m so glad you’re having fun blogging again! We might do some more at lunch Tue if the bloggers are keen.

It’s hard to keep blogging when your teacher isn’t really into it. You never know, you might be up for an Edublog Award at the end of the year. Do you remember those awards?

Wow, I love your title idea! So creative, I say go for it 🙂

          Best wishes,
          Mrs Morris

          • Dear Mrs Morris,

Thanks for a fantastic reply. I don’t think our great converstaion is going to end!

I just love blogging. You’re right! It’s hard to blog when your teacher isn’t really into it, btu I’m glad I’m in yours and Miss Jordan’s class.

Yes, I do remember what the Edublog awards are. I remember it from Grade 2.

I too, love the name of my blog. At first I was thinking something with the word legendary or lavish, but when ‘Living with Liv’ idea poppede into my head I liked it a lot better.

            Liv 🙂

            • Dear Liv,

Thanks for writing back again. Can you believe how many comments are on this post! It is officially the most commented on post for the year so far.

Great idea again for your blog title. I too love the word ‘lavish‘ but I think your title works. Another idea could be Liv’s Lavish Life but I think your idea was better.

              Best wishes,
              Mrs M☀rris

  32. Dear Mrs Morris,
Congratulations on this huge achievement to celebrate Education Week. I drop by your blog most weeks to check on what Gr 3/4 Leopold are up to. I think blogging is a wonderful way to share our classrooms and I’m always interested in your quad blogging initiatives. Keep up the good work and your enthusiasm for teaching.

I hope your night was as good as I am.

When your name got called out did your mouth drop and your tongue roll out?

    From your student, Trent.

    • Dear Trent,

Thanks for your great comment. When my name got called out, I put my hands over my mouth as I was so shocked!

  36. Dear Mrs Morris,

First of all congratulations on winning the award.

You must of been surprised when they called out your name.

Here are some questions I would like to ask.

    *How does it feel win

*How many people came up to you to congratulate you.

    From your student,

    • Dear Adam,

Thank you for your great comment.

It feels amazing to win! But I feel a bit disappointed for the other teachers who didn’t win too. I’m sure they do a great job as well.

I had so many people congratulate me that I can’t even count. My mouth was so sore at the end of the night from smiling and people have been contacting me all weekend to say congratulations! I’m lucky to know so many thoughtful people.

      Best wishes,
      Mrs M☀rris

  37. Wow. Now this is a fantastic post with an amazing story, but such a worthwhile winner. I have always been a big fan of Mrs Morris work and such a great way to spend the prize. Teacher of the year sounds very special and amazing. I did also really like Adam’s comment too about the other teachers but I am sure that they were happy to be finalists which in itself must be a very special achievement. Congratulations again.
Mr Webb and Room Five, Melville Intermediate School, Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand.

    • Dear Mr Webb and Room Five,

Thank you for your lovely comment. I really enjoy your work too!

A BIG congratulations from Charlotte and myself, a well deserved award for all your hard work!

You looked lovely (so did Miss Jordan!) and how wonderful you could take your family and Miss Jordan with you for your special night 🙂

Enjoy your moment in the sun and the wonderful trip overseas to talk about your passion that is coming up!

    Charlotte and Martine

    • Dear Martine and Charlotte,

Thank you for your lovely comment! It was fun to get dressed up and share the night with special people.

My trip to the USA will be fantastic and I know I’ll learn a lot!

  40. Dear Mrs Morris,

What a lovely post Miss Jordan and congratulation Mrs Morris for winning the award. That was a wonderful achievement.

I think it was outstanding and Mrs Morris would of got a exciting feeling when her name got called up. It would of been hard to answer the questions when you get put on the spot. ♦

    • Dear Emily,

Thank you for your comment. I sure did get an excited feeling when I heard my name! It is always hard to think on the spot but I think I did okay. I can’t even remember everything I said!

      Best wishes,
      Mrs M☀rris

      • Dear Mrs Morris,

Thank you for the reply. It is hard when you get on the spot but I am sure did okay probaly fantastic.

        Here are some questions:
♦ Have you ever won any other awards ❓
♦ If you won another award what would you want it to be for ❓

        • Dear Emily,

          Thanks for your comment.

I have won a couple of awards before. I got some at school for my school work and I also won an award called the Dean’s Prize at the end of uni.

I have never won awards for sports but I wish I was better at sports! It would be fun to win a sports award.

What about you? Would you like to win an award for something in particular?

          Best wishes,
          Mrs M☀rris

  41. Hi 4kj and 4km,
Its good to see so many proud students congratulating Miss Morris, Leopold primary is so lucky to have such a good bunch of teachers helping the students to learn in a fun environment.

    • @ Matt,

thanks for the awesome comment on the blog!

I am in 4KJ and I am also very lucky to have two cool and awesome teaches to teach me how to blog! 🙂
      I hope you are too!

Congratulations to Mrs Morris on wining the ten thousand dollar pries!

Hope to hear from you again,

  42. Dear Mrs. Morris,

CONGRATULATIONS! My class and I are so very happy for you that you won an award! I think that it is very generous of you to spend your 10,000 dollars to teach people how to blog and come to the USA to meet us! We are planning to have a lunch in when you come to meet us. Although, not everybody will be here because we will already be out of school.

I was jumping up with joy when Mrs. Yollis, my teacher, won the Teacher of the Year Award! She got a piece of paper congratulating her on winning the award. She put it in a nice frame and hanged it in our classroom.

I am so excited to meet you, and congratulations!

    M♥a (From Mrs. Yollis’ class)

    • Dear M♥a,

It is so great to hear from you! My award is in a nice frame but I haven’t decided whether to hang it up at home or at school.

I can’t wait to visit Mrs Yollis and all of my other blogging buddies in the USA.

Will you be able to make it to the lunch? I hope so!

      Best wishes,
      Mrs M☀rris

  43. Dear Mrs. Morris,

Wow, what a great achievement! You must be a really talented teacher to win primary teacher of the year!

The big award that you won looks like some of the awards Mrs. Yollis won and hung on the wall of her classroom, and one even has the same border, just different colors. It has a black frame and a blue border around the middle.

I think you and Mrs. Yollis will have a fun time at the ISTE conference in San Diego! I wish you luck, and I also cannot believe that bloggers from around the world will be there! That sounds exiting!

I hope you can come to my house and have a get-together. I will try to make that happen when you come to America. If it does not happen, I am still thrilled to meet you in person!

    R*#9812;yce (Mrs. Yollis’ class)

    • Dear Royce,

Thanks for your lovely comment. I was so happy when Mrs Yollis won her big award and now I can’t believe it has happened to me too!

Have you ever been to San Diego?

It is so generous of you to invite people to your house so they can meet me. I hope we can make it work! It is a shame you will be on holidays when I come over but if I get to meet some students I will be very happy.

      Best wishes,
      Mrs M☀rris

      • Dear Mrs. Morris,

        Thanks for the comment back!

Yes, I have been to San Diego. I went to a little seaport village. I stayed at a fancy hotel with a pool and amazing food. We also went to Legoland and Zoo Safari Park. I guarantee you will have a fun time there!

I heard that your husband is coming to California, too. He will also have a sensational time here in America!

My family is excited to meet the both of you!

        • Dear R♔yce,

Can you believe how many comments are on this post! It is very overwhelming.

I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed your time in San Diego. It is always fun to stay at a fancy hotel. When my students heard that Legoland is in San Diego they strongly recommended I visit. Lego is popular in 4KM and 4KJ.

You’re right, my husband is coming with me to California. His name is Nate and he teaches secondary school.

Please tell your family that I’m excited to meet them too!

          Best wishes,
          Mrs M☀rris

  45. Dear Mrs. Morris,

Congratulations! You must be so ecstatic! I would be too if I got that big of an award! It looks so pretty where you went to get the award! I love all of the decorations! I think that you were nervous when you were up on the stage accepting your award. I would be, with no doubt! I was wondering what you said when you went up on the stage. What was your favorite part of the whole night?

    Mrs. Yollis’ student

    • Dear Sasha♥,

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. Crown in Melbourne is a big entertainment complex. There is a lovely big room called the Palladium where they hold very special events like the Logies (that is like your Emmy awards I think).

I was a little nervous but very happy when I went up on stage. They asked me two questions
      – Why did you want to become a teacher?
      – What is the hardest thing about being a teacher?

My favourite part of the night was when they showed all the photos of 4KM on the big screen. There were some great photos!

      Best wishes,
      Mrs M☀rris

  46. Dear Mrs. Morris,

Congratulations on Primary Teacher of the Year! It must be a great achievement for you. We cannot wait until you come to America. Ellie says: Unfortunately, it is in June which I might not be able to go to because I am going to Yosemite. Here is a post about Yosemite on my blog Yosemite Valley. Etai= I can’t go because I am going to Israel for my brothers Bar Mitzva. He is turning thirteen years old.

Once again, we are very happy for you!

    Your blogging buddies,
    ♥Ell♥e♥ and Etai

    • Dear ♥Ell♥e♥ and Etai,

Thank you for your comment. It sure is a great achievement for me to win this award and many people, including your teacher, have helped me win!

♥Ell♥e♥ – I have heard Yosemite Valley is wonderful. That is a part of the USA I would love to visit, however, I’m not sure if I’ll have time on this trip. You will have a great time!

Etai – It will be amazing to visit Israel for your brother’s Bar Mitzva. I guess you have some family there? Have you been to Israel before?

      Best wishes,
      Mrs M☀rris

  47. Dear Mrs Morris,
Congratulations on your recognition of Primary Teacher of the Year! We are so lucky to have such a talented and dedicated teacher at our school. I have been lucky enough for you to have taught not only Travis but Siahn 7 years ago as well. I knew back then how wonderfully dedicated to teaching you were and what an impact you have on your children!!
Enjoy your accolades and I know you will continue with great things in the future. So proud, well done. Can’t wait to see that huge certificate in person!
    Melissa (Travis’ mum)

    • Dear Melissa,

Thank you for leaving a comment on the blog! I am Sophie and I am in 4KJ. I agree with you, we are lucky to have such a dedicated and talented teacher at our school.

Mrs Morris and Miss Jordan brang the huge certificat to school on Monday and showed it to us. It was huge!

    • Dear Melissa,

Thank you for the lovely comment! I have very fond memories of teaching Siahn and I’m enjoying teaching Travis just as much.

The framed certificate sure was huge. I just have to figure out where to put it!

      Thanks again,
      Mrs M☀rris

  48. Mrs Morris,
How lucky we are to have such top quality teachers here in “little old Leopold!”
Now, what we always knew to be true, has been officially rewarded and announced to the world!
Congratulations to you two gorgeous girls (Kathleen Morris and Kelly Jordan), you both definitely deserve to be recognised and rewarded!!
    We are so proud…

    • Dear Kylie,

What a lovely comment, thank you so much. I’m very lucky to work at Leopold with some great teachers – especially Miss Jordan, of course! It is always our pleasure to work with such supportive families too.

      Best wishes,
      Mrs M☀rris

  49. Dear Mrs Morris,

Thank you for replying to my comment! I also think it is a shame that so many yummy foods aren’t good for you. I agree with you, it is fun to save them for special treats.

I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.

  50. Dear Mrs Morris,

Congratulations on winning Primary School Teacher of the year.It looked like you had a lot of fun.We hope you or Miss Jordan could win it again next year.

I have a question was there anyone there that you knew?

It has been fun having you and Miss Jordan as teachers. You have taught us so many different things:)

It would be fun if you teached grade 5 or 6 so you could me again.

    Happy Blogging

    • Dear Max,

Thanks for commenting. Miss Jordan and I would love to teach you any year. You’re a great student!

That is a good question. There were actually some teachers there who I had met online through blogs or Twitter but I had never met them in person. So it was fun to meet in real life.

Maybe Miss Jordan will win next year!

      Best wishes,
      Mrs M☀rris
