May Is Family Blogging Month!

4KM and 4KJ love to share what they are learning and experiencing through this blog.

The involvement of family members in our blog is so important. It makes everything we do at school more meaningful and special.

In an effort to include more family members in our online community, we are starting a new blog comment challenge called

Whenever a students’ family member leaves us a comment, the student will record it on our blog comment chart using the following codes.

Family Blogging Month Codes

At the end of May, the 4KM student and 4KJ student who have the most comments from different family members will win a prize! In order to keep the challenge fair to everyone, each student can only record one comment on the chart per day. So the goal is to get as many different family members involved as possible during the month-long challenge!

Having conversations through commenting is one of the best parts of blogging so in your comments feel free to ask questions and reply to other peopleโ€™s questions.

Weโ€™re inviting everyone to comment including mums, dads, brothers, sisters, grandmas, grandpas, uncles, aunts, cousins and family friends.

* Family members don’t have to comment only on this post, they can comment on any post on our blog. *

Mrs Morris and Miss Jordan have run similar competitions in the past and it is always a big success. Thanks to Mrs Yollis for inspiring us with this idea! She sure does have a lot of great ideas!

Which family members will you invite to comment?

Which posts do you think will be of interest to your family members?

  2. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,

I am very excited about Family Blogging Month because I haven’t done it before and I would like to see which people’s relatives comment.

I think Family Blogging Month is a great oppurtunity for relatives to find out what you have learned in the past terms.

I will invite my brother ( who is in 2MD ), my mum and my dad and my carer Val.

My dad will be interested in the DAT post, my brother will be interested in the Guest Post: Welcome Ms Rollinson and my mum will be interested in the Learning about our Country post.

I hope everyone will enjoy this event!

    From your friend,

  3. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,

I think Family Blogging Month is great to get your family blogging and learning about what we are doing in the classroom.

Thank you Mrs Yollis for the wonderful idea!

  4. Dear 4KJ,

I am really looking forward to getting my family on the blog. ๐Ÿ˜†

(and I heard that if you get your family to leave enough comments you get your own blog ๐Ÿ˜ˆ )

I know I havent put enough writing in this comment but I want my snack and any way it is snack time in 2 more minutes.

  5. Dear 4km and 4kj,
โ€œWOWโ€ This post is amazing Miss Jordan.
We think this is going to be so fun. ๏Š  ๏Š
We have been waiting for this day for a long time and Mrs Morris and Miss Jordan have been talking about it non-stop!
We will ask our families if they can comment on our blog. ♥
We will be looking forward to this very special event. Family Blogging month is truly a great idea Mrs Yollis always comes up with some fantastic ideas!
We remember when we were in grade two and we had Mrs Morris and Miss Jordan and we had a competition like this but it was how many comments the students could do instead of family.

    From your blogging buddies,
    Leah and Emily. ๏Š ♥

  6. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,

What an amamzing post! I really liked the way that May is Family Blogging Month was explained. Now I understand more about it.

I can’t wait to get home tonight and call as many relatives as possible so I can get them to comment. I hope there’s an internet cafe’ in Fiji so I can comment while I’m there. I think it was a good idea to have a code and get different relatives to comment on blogs.

I think that May is Family Blogging Month was a great idea. It helps families understand more about blogs and blogging and more people can get involed rather than just us kids.

I will probably get my mum and dad to comment. After a while they will probably automatically comment as much as possilble. I will call my aunty too who has left a comment on our old Grade 2 blog. Maybe a few of my grandparents too.

My dad will probably be interested in posts about sport and clinics. Mum will probably be interested in what we are learning about in literacy and maths. My brother, Luca will most likely like anything. You know brothers, especially little brothers.

    Keep on commenting,
    Millie ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Dear Millie,

I also think that this is an amazing post!

I also liked it how it explained May is Family Blogging Month because I have never done it before now I have a brief explanation of it.

I also can’t wait to go home tonight to tell my mum and call my dad to try and comment on the blog. They will eventually comment automatically and will try to learn more about we are doing! I do hope that you find an internet cafe’ because I will be looking out for any comments by you.

I think Family Blogging Month is an oppurtunity for parents to comment!

      Got to go!

      Maha ๐Ÿ˜€

  7. Hi 4KM and 4KJ,

I love to regularly check in and read your blog, however I don’t often leave comments. I thing family blogging is a great way to encourage all family members to get involved!
I have enjoyed reading many of your comments, but I would have to say my favorite so far was ” The three little pigs” l always love hearing children read with such expression, and this was certainly a great example of that!

Good luck this month and don’t forget to add 1 for the mums.

    Bye for now,
    Katrina ( Trents mum)

    • Hi Katrina,

Thanks for your comment. We always love hearing from family members.

The Three Little Pigs post certainly was memorable and I had a lot of fun putting it together with the children.

We hope to hear from you and your family again.

      Best wishes,
      Mrs Kathleen Mโ˜€rris

  8. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,

Have a fabulous Family Blogging Month!

It has been quite a success for my class, and like Millie said, Family Blogging Month brings everyone into the classroom and parents become regular commenters! It really is a great way for families to learn together!

I want to thank Miss Jordan and Mrs. Morris for their kind words of attribution about Family Blogging Month. ๐Ÿ™‚ They always model wonderful blogging netiquette!

Happy Blogging and good luck to everyone!

    Mrs. Y♥llis

    • Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I do think 4KM and 4KJ will enjoy Family Blogging Month!

It is good to hear that it was a big sucsess in your class and it is good for parents and other relatives to find out what we are doing and commenting! Families will learn together as you said and they will have fun doing it!

I also thank Mrs Morris and Miss Jordan because they are teaching 4KM and 4KJ manners and how to be netiquetee and here is a good example!

I hope you have a wonderful day!

  10. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,

Iesha was telling me about a fun app the class used today.
It was about making up stories, and she told me she had so much fun using it. I am wondering what this app is called.
I just had the privilage of listening to Iesha do a piano lesson, she is progressing very well.

I am enjoying taking part in family blogging month. I hope a lot of other family members become involved.
    Have a great time participating

    Regards Pop

    • Hi Ian,

I’m glad Iesha enjoyed the iPad app in Literacy today! It is called “Toontastic” and it’s a free app. Her group had a wonderful time creating a story today.

Playing a musical instrument is a great skill to have, so I am pleased to hear Iesha is doing well.

Thanks so much for the comment, it’s great to hear from you on our launch day of Family Blogging Month!

      Best wishes,
      Miss Jordan

  11. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,

Sophie has been very excited about family blogging month. Sophie’s biggest challenge will be to get the grandparents to have a go at blogging. That might be a little difficult but you are never too old to learn something new.

I am looking forward to reading all the posts during May and commenting on them.

    Happy Family Blogging,
    Kerrie (Sophie’s Mum)

    • Dear Kerrie,

Thank you for leaving your fabulous comment.

I agree I think it will be hard to get some Grandparents to comment.

      From Lilli ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Hi Lilli,

Thanks for replying to my comment Lilli. Soph has already organised for her nan to comment on the weekend. She hasn’t typed before so I hope a short comment doesn’t take her too long.

        From,
        Kerrie (Sophie’s mum)

  12. Hi Everyone

Its Riley’s dad here. I am just dropping by to say that I am looking forward to the May blogging month and learning more about what the kids of 4KJ & 4KM are doing.

I hope that lots of people get involved and that the month is a great success.

    Bye for now.

  13. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,

I love this post! Great job Miss Jordan! ๐Ÿ˜€ I think Mrs Yollis did a great job at coming up with such a fabulous idea.

Wow, it’s May already. I enjoyed the May is Family blogging month last year and will definitely enjoy it this year. Millie and I had a draw last year.

I hope to get as many family members to comment on the blog. It will help them learn how to comment and blog.

My dad would probably like sport posts especially if it’s about footy. My mum would probably like posts that have information about what we are learning.

    See you all tommorow,

    Skye ♥ ♦

  14. Dear 4KM & 4KJ,
I think blogging is a good idea so the whole class can keep up with what going on their class mates lives. I know Maddy really enjoys reading the blog’s from her class mates. The only problem is that no-one else can get on the computer at home. Maybe if Maddy is a good girl, we might get the Internet connected to her Laptop.
Maddy has invited her grandmother and aunties to say something on the blog.
I would really like to hear more about the mighty Geelong Football Club on this blog because maddy and I are big Cats fans. We are going to watch the Catters beat the Demons on Saturday.
From Justin – Maddy’s Dad (The greatest Dad in the world)

    • Hi Justin (Maddy’s Dad)
This is Max’s Mum (luckiest Mum in the world)!!!

Did you know that Max’s cousin is 2nd year rookie for Geelong Football Club (JOSH WALKER NO. 42) playing VFL at the moment, he kicked four goals on Friday night against Bendigo. Maybe Max could ask him to come and talk in class this year!!!

      Happy Family Blogging month.

      Have fun 4KJ

      From Sandi (Max’s Mum):)

    • What a great idea! Now our granddaughter Madeline can teach us how to ‘blog’! Everyone calls her Maddy but we call her Madeline. We miss her very much because we are in Italy at the moment. She also learnt to skype so we can talk to her while we are away. She is surprised when she says she has just had dinner and we are about to have breakfast.
Thank you 4KM and 4KJ for setting up this blog for Madeline’s class for May.

  15. Dear 4KJ & 4KM,

I love your idea of ‘May is Family Blogging Month’!

I haven’t visited your blog for a while and I am very impressed by the Calender of Events listed on the side! It will definately help remind our family of special events, especially Bike Ed as I know Millie is looking forward to it!

I am looking forward to leaving some comments and getting involved in your blogging conversations.

    Enjoy your day,

  19. Dear 4KM and 4KJ

What a great idea Family Blogging Month is, I know Indiana is excited so we are all going to make a big effort to leave as many comments as we can.

It will also help me to learn alot more about blogging, as I have only ever blogged once!

We are looking forward to reading all the upcoming blogs. Enjoy Family Blogging Month everyone.

What a wonderful comment! I think Family Blogging Month is a great idea too. I have asked my mum (Lisa) to see if she can comment, and I am going to ask my dad tonight.

I look forward to seeing who gets there own blog. I wonder how many people are going to get a blog?

  20. Hi Guys,

Loving your blog and very excited about May blogging month. Keep blogging and get all of your family involved. I wonder how many posts you will get in one month?? Keep up the good work.

  21. Hi Year 4, I think your ‘family blogging month’ is a great idea. I think anything which gets children excited about writing has got to be a good thing. Because I live in Vietnam, your blog is a great way for me to keep in touch with what Madeline and her class mates are getting up to.

I am a teacher and my class in Vietnam also have a blog but they don’t have as many posts as your class does!! I look forward to seeing all the learning you are doing!

  22. Dear 4KJ & 4KM,

I remember back to Grade 2 when you had May for Family Blogging Month, Skye had us on the computer blogging nearly every day!! It’s great to see you keeping it up, such a good way to keep up with what you are doing in the classroom.

We’ll be asking Skye’s grandparents, auntie’s and uncles to all comment…her cousins aren’t old enough for blogging.

I’m sure you are going to receive a huge amount of comments, hope you can keep up with the replies!!

Good luck everyone and enjoy it…

    Cheers,

    Cassie ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. Dear 4KM and 4KJ,
    hi my name is lukey.

    I loved your blog post.

I do not do blogging that much so I am just starting to learn how to blog. My sisters are helping me.

I think family blogging month is great to get your family to comment on the blog.

    Hello every body!
    From Lukey.

  24. Dear 4KM, and 4KJ,

I love Family Blogging Month! I had a wonderful time doing it in Mrs. Yollis’ class, but it was called “November” is family blogging month, not “May”. Although I didn’t achieve being in the top three, I was happy playing and I was excited about being in fifth place.

I think that Family Blogging Month is a wonderful idea because all of your family members (or family friends) can do it too. I got my brother to leave a comment, my mom, my dad, my uncle, and my grandma. I don’t know how many they all left, but I know that they all left a comment.

In Mrs. Yollis’ class, if you are placed in the top three, you have a guest post and you can make a post of whatever you like! Out of three, only one person made a guest post, but the other two might of forgotten about it and this might remind them that they still have an open chance on having a guest post. I thought that Sarah’s guest post was great! She played Chopin on the piano.

I hope you enjoy Family Blogging Month as much as I did!

    Sincerely,
    M♥a (From Mrs. Yollis’ class)

  25. Hi 4km and 4kj,
Wow what an awesome post miss Jordan it does look like you have put in a lot of effort. It’s very thoughtful of mrs Morris and miss Jordan for thinking of a month that a lot of parents can comment.

    I will visit again.

  48. Hi Jess
I love this idea of Family Blogging Month. I might suggest this idea to the school that Finn and Flame attend. Even though you are at school the other side of the world, I feel like you are just up the road… It is very cool that this blog gives readers a lot of knowledge about what you have been up to, photos of teachers and students etc.
Today in Englefield Green (which is near Windsor Castle, where the Queen lives) it is 12 degrees, and a little rainy.. It is a bank holiday here so no school or work. And we live near Legoland too, which was closed yesterday for the whole day due to a power failure.. So a lot of disappointed children.
    Love and hugs
    Jo-Ann xx
